RAGs
The idea of RAG giving stemmed originally from the rags given to the poor in the 19th century by Oxford and Cambridge students during the Christmas vacation. Today, RAG is most often associated with the acronym, Raise and Give, and is a chance for students to do completely off-the-wall things while raising money for charity. University RAGs raise money in various ways...
- Organising Events: these can range from daredevil, adrenalin-pumping activities, such as bungee and parachute jumping, to slightly tamer ones such as organising an Ann Summers party, participating in the Three Peaks Challenge, or organising a social event, for example, a Zimbabwean themed dinner party to taste traditional foods and raise awareness of HIV/AIDS.
- RAG Raids: these are essentially street collections that could take place anywhere across the country, from your local shopping centre to a football stadium. You do need a collecitng permit to make it legal, so don't just turn up anywhere with a bucket in hand! They are a great way to raise money, yet also provide the perfect opportuntiy for a night out afterwards, and why not make it even more fun by getting dressed up in fancy dress or turn it into a competition to see who has the heaviest bucket!
- Nominate SPW as your charity of the year and fundraise for us!
- Participate in one of our fundraising events, such as the London Marathon or the London to Paris Cycle Ride!
